Xocoatl

Pronounced shock-WA-tel.

The original name the Aztecs, Mayas, Toltecs and Incas gave to the unsweetened stimulating drink they brewed from cocoa beans. It was a mixture of cocoa, maize (Indian corn) and water, flavoured with pepper and other savoury spices.
