Chocolate Syrup

A liquid form of chocolate (dark or white) that may be used as a dessert topping, beverage mixer or baking ingredient. The syrup is made from chocolate based foods with sweeteners added, and is commonly used to top ice cream sundaes and cakes, make chocolate milk and shakes, and to decorate dessert plates. Vegetable oils are used to make the syrup (replacing the cocoa butter of chocolate), along with sugar and any other flavourings (for example, orange, mint, raspberry) and stabilizers for easy flow. Quality chocolate syrup has a rich chocolate flavour from the cocoa powder or chocolate from which it is made, but many syrups are artificially flavoured.
