Cacao Pod
Also known as Cabosse De Cacao.
The pod-like fruit of the cacao tree, which are ovoid in shape, and range in colour from green to bright reddish-orange or even purple. The pods have differing shapes and sizes based on the variety of cacao, but typically measure between 15 and 30 cm (6-12 inches). Ripe pods are cut off the trunk and the largest branches of cacao trees with machetes and split open. Inside the pod there is slippery pulp and generally between 20 and 60 cacao seeds of about 1 cm in length.
